Introduction

Rhino can be applied for a lot of tasks when hull shapes are involved:

Initial Design/ Sales Impressions/ Hull Optimization/ Final Design/ Fairing for Production/ Reverse Engineering: Hull from GA, Lines-Plan, point cloud or measurements.

In this training module you will be further initiated into the mystery of hull fairing. Whether you will be a real artisan depends on how much you put the learned lessons into practice to become a master in hull design and fairing! These days not too many people are willing to spend a lot of time to become a real master in their field. So it all depends on your perseverance………

Learning hull modeling demands focus, patience and creativity. Finally the real master is able to design any ship type with a fair hull surface in a few hours including basic hydrostatic and stability analysis and a lines plan. Then editing the design later is done in no time. For a master in hull modeling the job of accurate reverse engineering from an existing lines plan is a matter of two or three days work.

Even then this training is not the end of the line; the next stop is Orca3d for a more integral workflow and advanced hydrostatic and stability analysis. If that is not enough, the free Grasshopper plugin enables you to fully parameterize ship design. This is especially useful for exploring design ideas; create variations on a theme or eliminating dumb work. At RhinoCentre we developed knowledge and training for all these applications.

This training teaches advanced hull design and fairing of nearly any ship, yacht or boat type. The “Hull design and fairing Level 1” training focused at the basics of designing ship hulls with the Rapid Hull Modeling Methodology. This training teaches more specific techniques and strategies of the Rapid Hull Modeling Methodology to get exactly what you want. Part of this is getting a better understanding and analysis of curves, surfaces and continuity. This is needed to make good decisions that lead to a clean and accurate hull definition.

Testimonial
“I have been a Rhino user for about fifteen years and I considered myself a competent modeler. However, I learned more about Rhino in four days at Rhinocentre than I did in fifteen years of teaching myself. I highly recommend this course.”

    • M0R1 – Prepare 2D input.
    • M1R1 – Hull design and fairing Level-1.
  • After purchasing this module, it will be accessible and available for twelve months.
  • It is possible to save the texts and images of the training module as a reference book. The instructional movies will not be available anymore when the access period ends.
  • By purchasing this product, one person is allowed to follow this training. This means that, for example, a colleague should also purchase this training. We trust you in this and ask you to respect our efforts and investment in developing this training for you.

Down below, you can see a small part of the online training to give you an idea what you can expect.

First, every exercise is explained with a movie. After that, below the movie, the exercise is written out step by step so you can practice yourself. You also receive tips, cautions and notes to understand better what you do and learn more than is explained in the exercises.

Exercise 10: Add an extra loft curve (Part 2/3)

Exercise 10: Fit the loft surface to the original GA within tolerance and fair (Part 3/3)

Exercise 10: Fit the loft surface to the original GA within tolerance and fair

  • Turn on the layers “Reference curves”, “+175 mm” and “-175 mm”
  • Start editing the bulb shape loft curves as that part is most off from the ref-ribs. use _Move, _Scale, _Nudge, etc. whatever is convenient to you. Add loft curves if needed
  • Remember to use the checklist above regularly while editing
  • For gaining extra experience, also model the aft ship to reference ribs that you first have to create yourself.
  • Save your file in the WIP folder on your desktop.

When you send us this file as one of the tasks for receiving a certificate of completion, you will receive in return, an example of a fair and accurate result. Otherwise you can also ask for the file by sending an email request.
